Latvia had just woken up from a nap and wasn't expecting any visitors, save for Sweden-papa or Finland-mama to come after classes with food and comfort. He was healing slightly, but even this wasn't enough to make the dull ache in his bones go away, nor the fear in his heart and mind of Ivan and how he'd let it happen.

He saw the girl slipping into the room and gave a weak smile beneath the oxygen mask, a slight groan coming from his chest as he attempted to move upwards on the bed. Still in his pyjamas, tucked into a pressed, white bed-sheet like a letter into an envelope. He looked at his laptop (given to him by the academy so he could log onto their network and download essays and homework so he'd stay on top of his studies) which was on the pull-out tray beside his bed.

He then looked back at Becca, smiling innocently and purely. There was pure silence for a few moments, save for the beeps from Raivis' heart monitor every now and again.

"H-how are you?"

She smiled back at him, even reached out to take his hand if he would allow her the bit of contact. A lot of her wounds had healed--she wasn't walking stiffly with bandages hidden beneath her trousers, and even a few safety pins had reappeared down the seams of the uniform pants again, though they weren't pulling them tight to her legs any more.

She still had her arms modestly covered, grateful for the long sleeves of the blazer. She doubted some of the scars would -ever- fade, and she already felt like people stared at her like a freak. But thankfully the whipwelt on her cheek had healed and faded away. She wasn't sure she could have withstood it if her face had been permanently marked.

"I'm doing a lot better. Most of my bandages are off now, and my cheek's healed..." She knew he'd seen it the last time she'd seen him, so pretending it hadn't happened was a bit pointless.

"How are you doing? Think you'll be up for classes soon?"

Latvia looked at her, noticing the winces of pain she occasionally gave out. He gestured for her to sit down, glad for at least some company.

It was little wonder, he surmised, that hospital in-patients could go mad if they had no friends or family to visit.

"I th-think I might be coming to classes soon... but I don't know..." He said quietly.

She settled in the chair he'd offered to her and took his small hand in hers carefully, being incredibly gentle of the tubes and wires and sensors that were hooked into the small boy.

"I'm sure you'll be just fine and in class soon enough. You're a brave boy to have held up under Ivan." She smiled encouragingly for him. "In the meanwhile...I've got a class assignment I need to put together a team for, and I have to pick people I don't know very well. Do you want to be on my group? Your friends from last time I saw you can be on my team, too, if you want."

She hoped he would want to work with her--she'd turned down other people so that she could offer him this. "Brings class to you in here that way, yeah?"

It felt good to have the feeling of her soft skin against his hand, and he weakly smiled at her again.

"Brave?" He blinked. "I d-d-d-don't know about th-that... I did live w-with him f-f-for a while..." He gulped, trying to change the subject, not wanting to bring up his past with the psychopathic Russian. His eyes lit up at the idea of being in a team project, and he nodded softly. "W-w-w-well, yes... but I'll be slow on working." He gestured to a machine that was set to induce exhaustion to keep strengthening his heart. "I'll b-b-be resting a l-l-lot. S-s-s-so... the evenings would be g-good."

He smiled again, a nice, genuine smile, his eyes closed, saccharine purity coming straight from the heart.

"If you lived with him...then you must be -very- brave." She squeezed his hand encouragingly and smiled for him again, hoping to reassure him ( ... )

"I'm n-n-not brave!" Raivis stammered, spluttering and tripping over his words. "Really, I'm n-n-not." He blinked as she told him that she had lived with someone who treated her badly. "How c-could anyone want t-t-t-to treat us badly..." He sighed, shaking his head.

At the smile, he felt his own heart warm, and maybe beat a little bit faster, a blush appearing on his cheeks and his stomach twisting into gnarled knots. "Y-y-y-y-you're too kind..."

He smiled again, rather serenely, and squeezed her hand. An idea then occurred to him - they could always beat Ivan together, no? He began to speak his plan out loud, and while it did sound completely ridiculous and near-impossible, it wasn't as if it couldn't be done... could it?
