So, those pre-employment tests? What is up with them?

I'm talking about "Situational judgment tests", the ones that ask questions like "You see your coworker do something that's against company policy. What do you do?" And then you choose a multiple choice answer, which can range from bat-shit insane (A: Burn the building down) to something like a ( Read more... )

Sometimes all the choices are so ridiculous--you either have to make yourself out to be a CRAAAAZY paragon of virtue, who'd never borrow so much as a piece of the office stationery, or else you have concede all kinds of venal thoughts. That's what I guess I don't like: that some of the choices come with explanations that I don't agree with. For instance, take something like using the office copier for personal items. One choice will be I WOULD NEVER DO SUCH A THING. Another will be "I would use it because I think the company owes me." That leaves me caught, because I *would* use it--but not because I think the company owes me. That's not my thought at all. And usually there'll be other choices as well, but often none of them express how I feel.

There should be a "How is that a big deal" choice.

I don't recall ever having to take one of those, even when I was working at the CVS pharmacy. I did have to take a series of deadly boring HIPAA lessons.
