It is difficult to put into words but the versions, the loss of connection as interpretations become wider, less tolerant.
I live in a neighbourhood where everyone puts up Christmas decorations, bursts Diwali crackers and tries to get themselves invited to friends' places for biryani on Eid - I count myself lucky that I do, I know it's not the norm.
Ah Krishna, if only you knew that your friend Ganesh gets lakhs of rupees a day at Siddhivinayak Temple ;)

Growing up in Guyana there was little religious conflict (but plenty of racial tension unfortunately) and almost everyone celebrated everyone else's religious holidays. Phagwah (Holi) was a particular favorite of all children for obvious reasons. No kid went home from school with spotless clothes on Phagwah.
