"the fetus is incompatible with your body" <- delivery of this line made the film worth it

So I saw Breaking Dawn: Part One at midnight last Thursday, and it gave me a lot of complicated feelings and opinions. Twilight always gives me feelings and opinions. :/ It was fun, though. I love the cult movie experience, and we had a great crowd - by which I mean, one that was obviously enjoying themselves, but was also not taking anything to ( Read more... )

I love the Twilight movies because I LOVE cheezy romance movies and trashy movies in general. Plus - whoosis without his shirt is totally worth the price of admission.

That being said - I was ecstatic the first 2 minutes and then pretty bored the rest of the movie. I'm not invested enough overall and the honeymoon scenes weren't (to me) fun enough to mock. Bruises?? Sheesh - Sersly - who hasn't gotten a few nicks or bruises when having BIG FUN?! They should have been worrying about private beach sand in tender places if they had any sense!

The birthing scene I only listened to because ICK!

UUUUUGH the birthing scene. Yeah, I spent most of it with my face buried in my friend's shoulder mumbling "I am so uncomfortable right now" and flinching every time there were sound effects, but I still had kind of been expecting to be disappointed by the way they handled it, and I wasn't. They went there. I'll give them that.

There is so much I want to say about your Stefan/Elena thoughts but there are lots of S3 spoilers in it, so I will have to come back when I know you've caught up. But! Spoiler-free, and on both Stefan/Elena and Damon/Elena, I agree with you 6 million percent.

Also *\o/* for excellent Yuletide assignments! *beams*

I actually LOVED the dynamic between Damon and Elena when they were developing a prickly, but ultimately very close, platonic friendship. That was so interesting! (I love really intense m/f platonic friendships). I just have issues with the romanticization of it, though honestly in any other text I might have hit the OT3 place by now. I'm just...how I am and can't do the incest pairing. (Stefan and Damon have one of my favorite dynamics in the show. UGH I LOVE SIBLINGS. But I can't ship them) And being unable to get to the Damon/Stefan place kind of precludes Damon/Elena for me because Elena/Stefan is just so excellent. I do know a lot more Damon/Elena stuff is coming, though, and Stefan/Elena is shifting, so I'll see how everything plays out.

I'll email you when I'm caught up and we can discuss. :)

I am SO PLEASED with my assignment, Helen. So pleased. Are you doing Yuletide?

That's what I mourned most about Season 2, or at least on this subject: I don't think the romanticization was done very well anyway (they addressed it way too freaking early to keep it interesting), but more than that, the two of them had SUCH a great friendship in first season and then it got cheapened and dull. I mean, even assuming Damon had feelings for her all along, it was just so well handled throughout the whole of S1 where it WASN'T being addressed. Unrequited and unacknowledged, even when you know (/suspect) it's there, made for such a great dynamic between them ;_; (Also agreed on Stefan and Damon, incidentally, and I adore incest pairings but don't ship the two of them even remotely. They're just great together.) (And now that I think about it, omg, you are in for such a treat this season re ( ... )

It really wasn't done very well - way too much tell with very little show

And now that I think about it, omg, you are in for such a treat this season re them :D

Yay! One thing I was thinking about is that there's Damon's whole thing where he's all I WILL CHOOSE YOU OVER ANYONE to Elena, but then his actions prove that, whatever is between them and whatever he says, he will also do anything for Stefan, and seems to want Stefan back even more than he wants Elena. I really like that.

Also, ugh, phone calls with Katherine. Love. Katheriiiiine. <3
