Eclipse

Last night I saw Eclipse at midnight! I am very tired this morning. The experience was amazing and unintentionally hilarious in that way that only Twilight can be at midnight when you're tired to the point of being vaguely delirious and surrounded by (what seemed to be) the entirety of Team Jacob. (My friends and I made obnoxious and kind of ( Read more... )

Bearing in mind my whole knowledge of Twilight is my half-assed watch of the first movie and other people's reviews of books and movies, the whole thing has always SCREAMED THREESOME to me. Though, of course, I'm biased.

No, the whole thing absolutely screams threesome. Sometimes I really wish there was more of an LJ-style (as opposed to all-fanfic.net-all-the-time) fandom for it. Sure there's some really sketchy/problematic stuff there, but has that ever stopped us? There is SO MUCH we could do with Twilight. Really, so much. There are all these threads just lurking below the surface waiting to be used for porn.

I had that feeling and I've been vaguely tempted, in an abstract way, to get acquainted with it (partially the reason why I watched the movie at all, other than simple curiosity to see what all the fuss was about). The problem is that, well, I'm not tempted enough to subject myself to the actual canon - there should be extended summaries focusing on the interesting stuff so we could take it from there.

I also always thought that Twilight is a Mary Sue human AU of Buffy. So yeah to your reading of SMeyer self-insertion - and what it reveals, but then again, I always thought what we write is hugely self-revealing, which, well, duh. There should be meta about what these books say sociologically about this generation that grew up during the Bush years.

I had an impulse or two while I was reading it (and another last night watching the movie) of "*that* would be an interesting fic." But I feel like any fic I wrote would be as much meta as story.

I also always thought that Twilight is a Mary Sue human AU of Buffy.

I could see it, kind of, except Bella is REALLY no Buffy. She is pretty explicitly a self-insertion character, though. Smeyer has more or less said as much, which is wow, uncomfortable. Of course what we write is revealing, but Twilight seems to take that to a whole new level.

It's definitely hitting some kind of cultural nerve. I don't know what that is, exactly, but it is kind of unnerving.

Just ALL OF THEM. Of course, it might make Jacob imprinting on Reneesmee even more awkward.
