As I said last night, I finally finished listening to Breaking Dawn on audiobook. tl;dr - flocked for all of the projecting that goes on at the end. /o\ ( spoilers )

They are fun enough, but even textually there's some pretty horrifying stuff, mostly related to how Edward and Jacob treat Bella.
I identify as childfree so I always get *really* testy at the emphasis on procreation, but it must have been so frustrating in your situation. I'm sorry.
Once I had a baby? My family and wider circle of friends (the ones from my home town) lauded me for finally achieving something. To finally have been 'blessed' with what I was put on this earth to do.
That's so messed up. But it is an attitude I see all too frequently - though often it's fairly subtle, at least in media. I guess it's relatively subtle in the Twilight books? It was a giant flashing red light to me, but I know it wasn't until everyone.
I've seen from these same people the idea of "Twilight" as a purity teaching tool.
This is largely my hesitation with them too. It's the popularity that gives me pause, and the ways in which the Edward/Bella relationship is held up as ideal. Just no.
Thanks for writing this, dude, I thought these were really thinky and interesting and also spot on in so many ways. My thoughts on Twilight kind of boil down to "ugh dnw" now after way too long spent being RIGHTEOUSLY FURIOUS about them, etc. etc., and "I will always go see the movies, because they are hilarious", but this was really thought-provoking, so hey, awesome. ♥
Thanks for reading! I'm glad it made some kind of coherent sense and that you found it thought provoking. I meant to just briefly write down my impressions, but it turned into something of a tirade, so.
The movies will always be hilarious. I don't even understand how they're going to film the fourth one. I'm pretty sure the fourth book is nearly unfilmable.
