Fun with bandom google alerts

I was about to turn the computer off and go to bed, but this just popped up on my Gabe Saporta google alert (don't judge me, you know you have one too):

Cobra Starship's Gabe Saporta does Fan Fiction Better than the Most Prolific Fangirl.

"Finally, one emo rocker - Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship - is taking back the night. Quite literally, he's ( Read more... )

I completely do not understand how people can think Gabe doesn't know *exactly* what he's doing. I mean, he's completely up front about it. I mean he couldn't make it any more obvious. That's part of the *charm* of it. He's fucking with people and having fun. It's kind of what makes him adorable.

Yeah, he's really not subtle. So he's actually not even fucking with people that much because when you *tell* them you're fucking with them, it doesn't quite have the same effect. I don't blame the old school Midtown fans for being a little bitter. Gabe can do what he wants, but I know this isn't what they signed on for. At the same time, it's a little hilarious to hurl "sellout" at him like he somehow didn't notice.

I think in a way though, he is fucking with people (though I have not studied The Saporta as long as you have). Because he's calling them on stuff and nothing upsets people more than being called out. Maybe fucking with them is the wrong term. Of course, I unironically love almost all 80s music, so I'm not to be trusted.

Also, while I get that Midtown was a different band than CS, and therefore people followed Gabe just because of Midtown, um...Midtown was a different band than Cobra Starship. I mean, you are not required in any way, shape or form to like everything someone does. If you don't like CS, then just go off and do something else. Also, I love the entitlement (good to know it's music elitists as well as fangirls) that Gabe owes them something.

You know Gabe sits at home at night and goes "Am I selling out with this? I just can't quite *tell*." Heee.

No, you're right. Far be it from me to claim that Gabe isn't fucking with people. He's a button pusher to the point that sometimes I really think he goes too far. What I meant was he's not fucking with people in the sense of trying to pull one over on them or fool anybody. He wants people to *get* it.

The fannish entitlement is rampant and ridiculous, agreed. I'm just saying that I see how there's a disconnect between what Gabe is doing and how some of them are reading it. I think he has a *lot* of cognitive dissonance on the sell out accusations (among other things) because on the one hand yes but on the other hand he's making a point with it. Everything he's done has been very intentional.

Sometimes I just like to listen to Hot Mess and laugh wildly at how LOL DEFENSIVE the whole thing is. It's like blinking marquee-text lol defensive. I love it. Oh, Gabriel.

Yeah, I do that too. I listened to "You're Not in on the Joke" and "I May be Rude, but I'm the Truth" on repeat all the way to campus today. GABRIEL SO RIDIC. But it must be really frustrating being him, sometimes since it's so important to him that people get it...and people still don't get it.

His life, so hard. :( Good thing he can just roll around on his PRIVATE PLANE until he feels better.

&Gabriel; Don't worry about the haters, bb! Be adorable at your boss some more, I like it. :D
