Wow okay you are describing Supernatural fic I want to read a lot. A LOT. And hey if it's even crossover het and not an OC, like maybe a character like Chloe from Smallville in a AU universe where it's not aliens it's monsters. I'd read her/Dean in a heartbeat.

I like Darcy (I LOVE COLIN FIRTH) but I'm not gonna swoon over the guy.

Have you read Glimpses? It's by femmenerd; it's Dean/Faith (as in from BtVS) it is long, it is AWESOME. It actually fits my description pretty well. I just want there to be more.

I like Colin Firth too! And glad to hear I'm not the only one. *g*

Ohhh! I'm bookmarking that right now! I am such a sucker for good, long crossover fic.

Yeah I love that movie and I love the relationship but I just don't get all worked over Darcy. And I get to the part where he dives and roll my eyes because that shit is not in the book because it's ridiculous. Meanwhile everyone else is all woo wet man.

Hee. My friends were completely willing to laugh at the cheesier aspect of that movie. But yeah, the diving in the lake was like O__o. Why?

Also he just broods too much

Ugh, I couldn't even watch the miniseries. When I tell people I'm not just that into Mr. Darcy, they tend to respond with, "Yeah, that's the proof that you're a lesbian." And I go all, "Um, I sleep with dudes?" And they go "MR. DARCY. YOU HAVE NO HETEROSEXUALITY IN YOUR SOUL WOMAN."

*avoids Supernatural spoilers like the plague*

Right? I would rather bang Elizabeth. Uhhh, I mean, I sleep with dudes?

Mr Darcy Lovin':
- Not based just on the character, methinks, but also on the actor playing him. (I haven't read the book, but I really don't think I'd give a shit about him in the story.)
- I love him, but he strongly fits in to my "Alpha Male Syndrome."

I think to a certain extent it may be based on the actor, but in a lot of cases it really is based on the character. The people who really love him seem to love him in the book and love him in different versions regardless of who is playing him. Or, if they don't like the actor then that just means that particular actor isn't doing justice to the character.

Yeah, sometimes I like alpha male characters, but I'm picky. I don't know. I actually think Darcy is a great character and I like the Darcy/Elizabeth relationship. It's just that I, personally, am not swooning over him.

I do adore Darcy, like I adore most of Austen's men (well, the ones I don't hate). But I read Austen for the heroines, mostly. I kind of resent the Darcy thing because it feeds into the idea that Austen's books were primarily romance novels. . .and the kind of romance novels where only the hero matters.

Also, I hate the casting of Colin Firth. I think he's terribly inappropriate for the character -- or, at least, that interpretation of him is inappropriate.
I have loved Colin Firth in a lot of things, but the whole casting and interpretation are just off.

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of it like that. Interesting, and you might be right. I definitely read Austen more for the heroines too, but I hadn't thought to put it in that context.

I didn't mind Colin Firth (because I usually adore him), but I really just . . . don't have strong opinions about Darcy. /o\

This season of the office is exceptionally mediocre. I think that 2&3 may have been the peak and it's gonna be downhill now :( i'll give it time to hit a rhythm i guess.

I'm afraid you're probably right. I'm gonna wait and see what happens - and I'm easy, so as long as Jim and Pam are still together, I'll probably keep watching - but I don't love it as much as I used to. Needz less Dwight. And WAY less Michael. My embarrassment squick will barely let me watch him at all anymore.
