Non fandom-y question, but what program are you going back to school for? I'm tossing around the idea of a film studies/media studies/communcication & culture, and it seemed like that was what you're doing?
If so, how did you decide upon what schools to apply to & such?
Yep. Communication, Culture and Technology at Georgetown. I'm happy to talk about it with you if you want.
I had few friends in similar programs, so I looked at what they did. Also google searches. I applied to Brown, Northwestern and MIT also (and there are plenty of good programs I didn't apply to because I got lazy and applications fees were a lot). Brown and Northwestern are pretty much PhD programs though and I'm just getting my MA and Georgetown. I don't think I want to teach. Don't ask me what I want to do because I don't really know.
Lol. See, I at least have an idea on what I want to do-- I'd like to continue to work in film festivals, but feel that while my admin skills help, that I don't have enough theoretical film knowledge to make me a true asset is the middle/upper management sense. So, IDEALLY, I'd like to work at a festival, while having time to write theory essays/books or *maybe* take the occasional semester to teach. Because I honestly think I'd be a shit teacher, so I understand your desire not to teach.
It seems kind of hard to begin the search though, as so many programs toss around different names for the same essential program, and I really haven't been doing so well at finding a site that ranks programs such as these. (Though I started looking up scholars that Peggy McCormack used in class, and looked to see where they went to school/were teaching, heh.)
...well. YOU MISSED ME POSTING A BUFFY/ANGEL FIC. ... uh which I'm only telling you because you're one of the people I am semi-nailbiting over the opinion of in this matter.
