It's been a long and busy week. One one hand, we're into a long weekend so more rest. Next week is going to be pretty full on trying to clear up everything by end of the month and by the time the changes to my role kick in (from 31/10). I'm nrevous, scared, pretty stressed ( Read more... )

Thanks for keeping me posted on this one. It briefly made the news over here and has now, of course, been forgotten. I'm sure the blue penguins have got enough problems without an oil spill adding to their woes...

You're welcome. We've had some decent (not great, not stormy) weather yesterday & today, but it's turning over towards bad conditions again. They are still pumping & have pulled about 226 of the 17,000 tons of oil off so far.

I thought of you when I read this, particularly when I read Prawnie's comment.

Only 16,774 tons to go then!

Confetti sure beats a load of rotten body goo, but then I suppose in reality it would be confetti drenched in rotten body goo... Bleaugh!

It would probably solidify into small mounds and the spring mechinism meant to spray confetti would spray "miscellaneous bits" (ew!) that you'd still have to catalogue. After being decontaminated from unknown Coffin Goo.

Re: The Rena, there's bad news, they think some endangered orcas have been through the oil and it's not good for them. They were talking on the news about trying to get a 2nd pump out to the boat and if the weather got worse, bringing a different boat that can handle the rough seas. I know the recovery people are doing their best but I'm seriously pissed off at the fact that the damned boat sat around for a week before anyone started doing anything. Even cleaning the beaches they kept saying they were waiting for more to wash up and a certain high/low (can't remember which) tide so they could make sure they got it all up.

*Sigh* I'll climb off my soap box and go make some more coffee.
