Family Outing [RP For Benditlikebea]

Mr. Sinister is not having very much fun at Disney.

First of all, he had gotten very drunk with Mike, of all people. Later, the moment he wouldn't admit to anyone that he'd been dreading had arrived; he had seen Rachel again, in the hallway of their hotel.. Rachel, who had been drunk. Rachel, who had just given herself to some tactless, stupid man ( Read more... )

She looked at her watch and realized she was running late. An annoyed sigh escaped her lips and she looked around, hoping maybe he was running late also. No such luck. He was sitting on a bench looking all kinds of emo... or asleep. She wasn't really sure. She reached into her purse and as she headed toward him, decided to turn off her cell phone. No need for interruptions if he was upset.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

Nathaniel looked up. "You shan't want that, I assure you." He stood, looking solemnly at Beatrice. "You are looking well. Are you enjoying your vacation? This place is very strange. I either frighten children to tears, or they ask me for my autograph. I have started signing Mr. Sinister on autograph pads. I imagine this shall greatly annoy Tony Stark."

She giggled at the visual that presented; both of him signing autographs and of Mr. Stark finding out.

"Well, you don't frighten me and I have a bunch of pennies. So whatever is bothering you, I can afford it," She sat next to him and looked up at the exhibit. "Unless you want to wait until AFTER we make fun of all the Epcot stuff,"

"Isobel tells me this is the science exhibit." He looked up at the giant dome. "This ride purports to teach us about the origins of mankind, or some such. Do you recall the actor from the animated lion movie? I believe he does the narration. It shall be pleasant to hear a familiar accent."

Nathaniel looked at her. "Ah. I have spent a lot of time in my room, reading things. I read very fast, and the bookstore carries quite a few guidebooks. There are also endless numbers of programs about this entire park on the telly. I learnt a great number of things that I am certain are taking up room where important information should be." He tried to smile. She could not want to be here with him. Beatrice was young, and her friends were here. "Or, if you wish to go meet someone else, you are not obligated to spend time in my presence."

Right now, Nathaniel was almost so annoyed with himself, he couldn't imagine why anyone wanted to spend time with him at all.

"Leave it to you to come up with a way to apply something fun and ridiculous to your research," she smiled and handed her glasses to the man waiting to collect them at the door.

She could hear him thinking about his emotions and wondered how their relationship would have been if he hadn't had them. Drastically different, she imagined.

"You know... there are good things that can come from all of this mess, you know," She was referring to Rachel and his return of emotions, but she figured she didn't need to specify, "You and I never would have gotten to see the 3D movie if you didn't have your emotions, becase somehow I doubt that you'd be hanging out with me. So for that matter, you have me now as someone who will hang out with you and not yell at you for things you did in the past. Plus... now you have someone else to kinda throw in my father's face if he gets all angry and yell-y and stuff," She smiled, and although she hoped that didn't ever happen, she imagined it probably would. Cable struck her as a might bit overprotective.

"I do try to avoid taunting your father, it is just so easy." Nathaniel smirked, but he thought seriously about what he'd said. "That is not necessarily true. I had...relationships...with people prior to Rachel's returning my emotions. I even had a girlfriend, once, would you believe that?" He smiled briefly. "Before Rachel. Though I suppose I can only handle one every eighty years or so."

Of course, he had driven his last girlfriend nearly mad. He didn't share that part with Beatrice.

EPCOT was a big place. There were all sorts of exhibits. In the science one, there was a ride which featured a dinosaur and told them about electricity. There were hands-on exhibits after the ride. Nathaniel was able to solve the chemistry problem in under two minutes, which apparently set some kind of record. He won a stuffed dinosaur with a somewhat creepy grin. He gave it to Beatrice.

"Ok, ok. Point taken. I'm just saying that there have to be upsides to these sorts of thngs. Silver linings. 'Cause if there aren't..." She didn't finish the sentence. She wasn't sure how to, anyway. She was one of those people who could find good in everything. It kept her going.

She walked with him around the park, simply enjoying his company. A lot of times, he seemed a bit like a kid again... well, when he wasn't breaking records and scaring the bejeezus out of people. When he handed her the dinosaur she looked at it with a smile and handed it back.

"As much as I appreciate this, I want you to keep it. I've already got Scar at home to remind me of you. Maybe this will remind you of me. Give you at least one good memory of Disney, you know?" She realized it would look extremely out of place for him to have a stuffed animal. But, that didn't matter so much to her. She just wanted him to know that she was around if she needed him. Maybe that would help.

Nathaniel had the sudden urge to hug her. He didn't, because despite his usage of a familial family term with her, she was not actually related to him. But he had sudden memory come out of nowhere, of his sister. Julia. She'd drowned when he was young.

He took the dinosaur and tucked it under his arm. "I shall have to find you a better souvenir, then." He picked up something that looked like a gyroscope, or some space ice cream. "They do not have ice cream in space," he said, and the shop clerk overheard him and laughed cheerily, in a way that made Nathaniel want to hit him.

"Well, but if they did, it would taste like this!"

"Mint chocolate?" Nathaniel eyed it warily. "Lad, if you had a flavor called utter misery or freezing cold black nothing, perhaps." He put the space ice cream down. "Ah, Beatrice, look here .This is a pen that purports to work underwater. A space pen." He looked severely at the clerk. "There is not water in space. Have any of you even been there?"
