Do you guys remember that thing where all the 4th graders in the county got together for some kind of special thing downtown one day?  We gathered in the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Auditorium and played "Red River Valley" on recorders.  Then we took tours of downtown, learning about the history and architecture.  Then we all met up at Pack Square and ( Read more... )

Vaguely remember the recorders....didn't remember where we were though. I also remember learning about the flat iron building and remaining eternally confused about how that building looked like an iron. But I didn't remember that being the same day. Oh and I don't remember the name.

i think maybe it was "discovery day" or "discover asheville"???

I think it was called Discovery Day because later I got confused when we made a trip to Discovery Place. We met at the auditorium and sang songs with"How-weird" (he's the minister at Jubilee and also a children's song writer/singer). Then we played games around the buildings that at the time were just historical but have since been renovated and now have businesses in them. I remember that day in particular because I had the biggest crush on Scott Reed and we held hands a lot walking around the town. I have a picture of him wearing the blue shirt they made us all wear.
