Hey, I came across a stray cat this morning and took him in. Wasn't there a person looking for one? Maybe this is yours! He sleeps a lot, does that sound familiar?

... if it's not yours, I don't know what I'll do with it. I mean, it looks like a stray, so I'd hate to let it out on its own again.

Maybe I should have asked Dad if this was okay to

I appreciate the thought, but my cat is actually a human.

But I've never cared for a pet before!

... I know... that's why I took him in without really thinking about it.

It was pretty stupid of me though, wasn't it? I don't even know if I can take care of it.

Whoa, I didn't even think of that. I should take her to a vet, huh?

[... I thought about it...?]

Uh, know any vets?

If it's a stray, then it already knows how to take care of itself. In fact, it may well end up running away because it's not used to living with humans.

It doesn't seem to mind right now... it's just sleeping on the couch.

That may be so, but keep in mind that as a stray, it's little better than a wild animal. It might stick around because you give it food, but there's always the possibility that someday it simply won't show up anymore.

That said, there's nothing wrong with trying to tame it, if that's what you end up deciding. Certainly a life as a pet is more secure than a life as a stray--if nowhere near as free.
