Marley and Me -- John Grogan

I admit. At first, I was a little skeptical when a dear friend of mine brought this book to my hands, letting me borrow it from her. She knows what a great love of books I have and what an animal advocate I am. She loved the book and wanted to pass it on too me. Usually, I hate the idea of reading anything that could ( Read more... )

I'll admit it as well, I was very skeptical of this book. My mom gave it to me and said that I had to read it. I do not read books like this. I read YA books, or chick lit, or a good piece of fiction. I don't read non-fiction stories about animals.

By page two, I was completely sucked in. I couldn't put it down. I laughed at the hillarious stories, cried during his wife's troubled pregnancy, shuddered during the part where his neighbor is stabbed. And I knew it was coming--I knew what would happen in the end. But that didn't stop me from totally breaking down, sobbing for what felt like days.

I've never had to put an animal down. My beagle is turning 5 in a few weeks, and I can't imagine life without her. This book really helped me appreciate her and learn to love every minute with her, even when she's chewing through my garbage can or howling at the neighbors.

I reccommend this book to anyone who has ever loved an animal. =) GREAT BOOK!!

Haha yeah, see, I'm usually into horror novels or medical thrillers. Stuff like that. I hate reading books that will make me cry. But it was totally worth it.

I actually read this book a bit slower because I knew what would happen in the end, so I tried to avoid it haha. But Grogan wrote the ending beautifully. I was dreading to see how he'd conclude the book and he actually did a good job.

And awww. Yeah, my cat Strummer is turning 3 in April and it just seemed like yesterday that he was as big as my fist, curled up on my chest. (Now he's a monster!) It's always great to know that there are other animal lovers out there. The non animal lovers can never understand why or how an animal lover reacts to their pets. It's unfathomable to them. It's like we run on a different mindset, have our language of our own, our own little club.
