Wow, I'm so happy for both of you.

What do you wear to something like this?

Just something formal! I mean, it's like, not a wedding, just a formal announcement of intention to wed, so like, it doesn't have to be the nicest thing you own, but it should be nice.

And decent. [He adds this because he's seen what passes for clothing where you're from, missy 8|]

It's cool! It's like, pretty much just a party to celebrate getting engaged.

A wedding?

Well, at least some folks get to be happy.

Well, like, not a wedding yet. A betrothal. Y'know, like, an engagement. But yeah!

One normally expects a marriage to lead to a wedding.

Okay, sure! [Nevermind that what she wears is usually skirts and dresses that end above her knees. Ah, the lack of modesty in the 21st century. Right Poland?]

Um...Poland what does "ceremony" and "betrothal" mean?

Reply

reckless_eagle May 26 2010, 05:07:11 UTC
Oh... I probs should have written yours differently. Ummm, ceremony's like, something fancy and special you do to mark a special day. And betrothal's when you agree that you're gonna marry someone!

It's when two grown-ups like, decide that they love each other more than they love anyone else who's not family, and they want to raise a family together and kiss each other and grown-up stuff like that, so they make a promise to each other and to God that they'll always take care of each other and won't give that special kind of love to anyone else.
