Electric downriggers are the way to go. But you'll also need a depth finder of some sort to avoid fouling your gear.

Oh, we have downriggers, for the salmons.

For halibut, we want to be right on the bottom, literally bouncing on it.

What I am talking about is basically just an electric assist for spooling the reel back up, to avoid doing it by hand-crank every 2-20 minutes all day long. Wouldn't help at all once a fish was on, but sure would make that repetitive job easier.
