Haven't posted on of these for a long time, haha!

Okay, so it was my cousin's birthday and he was having a little picnic bash at the park. My brother told me to make a side dish. I didn't know it was a picnic actually, or I probably would have made something a little more finger-friendly. As it was, my mango salad disappeared quite nicely by the ( Read more... )

I'm not a fan of cilantro and my family doesn't enjoy raw onion so much, but otherwise it looks so good! I thought there would be, you know, veggies involved (okay, so peppers ARE veggies but I mean...romaine. spring mix. you know, THOSE veggies) but hey, otherwise this looks nice and healthy, and no fattening dressings to go with it!!

it's not nice for you to post things like this when I can't eat it made by you *pouts*

What also is interesting is that many non-asians don't use these mangos (the yellow ones whose name starts with 'a')...they tend to prefer the red/green ones, the bigger ones. But then its because most haven't tried the yellow ones because once they do they seem to agree that it's very tasty and more mango-y!!

wish I had a food icon now, LOL!! XD have you tried the 5-minute chocolate cake yet?!

If anyone did want to use a dressing, use the same-style vietnamese dipping sauce:

1 lime
50g sugar
4 tbsp fish sauce
5 mint leaves, chopped
1-2 small Thai chillies (bird eye chillies), chopped (and deseeded if you prefer it less spicy)

for extra flavour, but it's not really required.

As for the mangoes, I've eaten a lot of different kinds and it's really... -shrug- depending on the mango, you do different things. The Thai have like 5 different kinds of mangoes they use for several dishes; there's a ripe mango salad, green (raw) mango salad, served as is, with spiced dip, etc etc. I don't have favourites and have successfully made mango salad with different types of mangoes, whether Asian or non-Asian (I tried it with Mexican mangoes before and it still was okay, though not as good).

And no, I didn't try the cake yet. I forgot to buy ingredients for it x_X
