When Pesto had seen the picture of Cesare on his laptop, the pup had leaped at the screen, nearly knocking everything cleanly off his desk. Tsuna had no idea what that meant but the pup won't stop trying to hurl itself into the screen and apparently the white furball was the reason for his incessant barking. No bribe, chew toy, doggy treat, the fishes in his panic room or even his bed seemed to appease the spoilt pup and Tsuna was at his wits end.

"Ok ok I give. You want a new friend? I'll go adopt a stray?"

Pesto scratched him as an answer. Tsuna glared at his dog in an attempt to follow Ryohei's iron hand and wilted at once when Pesto whined. He sighed and resigned to fate, he really couldn't handle the look the dog was giving him. Picking up his mobile, he texted for help.

Um... I know this is going to sound crazy but... May I borrow your cat?

When her cellphone beeped Uni was cradling her kitten in her lap, trying to keep him from wriggling away as she cleared her couch of pillows to give him a proper place to sit. Cesare disliked it, she could tell -- thankfully he never clawed at her, though the marks on her assistants' arms would take a long time to heal -- and so when she was finally able to set him down and reach for her phone she stopped half a breath short of heaving a sigh of relief ( ... )

Uni blinked.

She re-read the message.

It was, she knew, not in her best interest to keep replying. All their previous encounters had not only thrown her into confusion, they had brought her dangerously close to an edge she was not meant to cross. But whatever uncertainty or enforced distance was overruled by the strangeness of it all. Despite herself, her lips quirked up into what could, if one were to look at her from a certain angle and in a certain light, be a smile.

Are you planning to photocopy my kitten, Vongola Decimo-san?

She was waiting, Tsuna knew. Waiting for him to say something, anything but he only found incoherence instead. The brunette was suddenly glad that he had something to hold onto (even if Pesto was trying to bite his hands off), he didn't know how to handle girls. They were... complicated beings. Very.

"UM..." Chewing his bottom lip, he struggled for words. Ugh! Honesty was the only way, Tsuna decided, giving up on the million of lame excuses possible.

"You have nothing to apologise for. I should be the one doing that! I.. didn't mean to drag you out in the cold but..." Tsuna looked down at Pesto, glaring.

"But...?" she gently asked. "What's wrong with your dog?"

Pesto whined, pawing the table cloth. It was white like Cesare. Tsuna sighed.

"I think..." He paused, not really wanting to say it out. "I think he likes your cat? I mean I know dogs don't like cats but he err..."

Tsuna wanted to die.

In response, Uni pried her kitten off her shoulder and set him down on her lap, keeping one hand on his back to warn him to stay still. Cesare, she had learned, was nothing if not strong-willed, but if there was one thing he valued above getting his own way it was his dignity. She didn't doubt he would behave. The little emperor.

Still, she pinched the scruff of his neck lightly -- just enough to keep a hold on him if he decided to bolt.

WHY THE HELL DO YOU WANT THIS CRACK DRAWN O_O BUT I WANT TO SEE IT LOL xx100dontkillme January 24 2009, 10:55:06 UTC
Tsuna was halfway reaching over Uni to get Pesto off her lap when her hand cradled both animals and he breathed a silent sigh of relief. At least she wasn't offended by Pesto's antics, the brunette thanked God for her patience.

Stuffing his hands into his back pockets, Tsuna fidgeted, feeling bad about the entire fiasco. "I think he's lonely," he said finally.

He never knew how right he was and it wasn't just Pesto that fact applied to.

YOU KNOW WHY, AHAHAHA. AND YES, I DO TOO onlyluminous January 24 2009, 11:06:58 UTC
Uni settled for patting the puppy with her ungloved hand, trying to keep him calm even as she kept one hand firmly around the scruff of Cesare's neck. The kitten hissed, tiny needle-like claws digging into her thighs.

Hard enough to draw blood, it felt like. Uni bit her lip, but did not scold the kitten. "Hush," she said quietly. "Learn to behave."

She looked up at the Vongola CEO after a few moments, belatedly registering the meaning of his words. When she understood she let a half-smile slip on her face, past the abstract calm. "Aren't we all, Sawada-san?"

WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING AT THIS TERRIBLE CRACKY THING LOL xx100dontkillme January 24 2009, 11:45:16 UTC
Tsuna fell silent, realising what he had said and turned a little pink at the girl's intuition. She understood him and vice versa, which made being around her somewhat easier but at the same time, dangerous. He was already this transparent but Uni seemed to see through that transparency and find something opaque about it. It scared him but Uni was harmless, as was he.

"Not by choice."

YOU ARE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO onlyluminous January 24 2009, 12:09:46 UTC
"I wonder," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, "if anyone would choose it. Loneliness is more difficult to bear than solitude."

She had been thinking aloud, she realized with dismay -- the apology felt clumsy on her tongue even as she said it: "I'm sorry, I misspoke."
