I dont have to take Mineralogy over again!! Schweet shit!! I am so excited. That graduation counselor just totally made my day. Halleluja thank the Lord and my dentist!!

I quite literally danced a jig in the back room at work when I read that email. I was so happy. My moms ecstatic now too. Woo hoo! YAY!!

Ok, at least here:

Mineralogy is just what is sounds like, all about minerals. You learn like 100 different minerals, their crsytal systems (ie: hexagonal, isometric, etc) and pretty much just how they might be formed and what they look like.

Petrology are the 3 rocks groups (igneous, sed. and meta.) and the minerals that are within then. Like a granite has quartz, plagioclase and k-spar which are all seperate minerals.

SO, in essence, mineralogy is the road that is laid down prior to petrology, tho Im understanding petrology a helluva lot better than mineralogy (Im sure the D I got in that class can attest to that...*sigh*)

I dont even know what a stereonet is. I dont think we've ever gone over them, but yes, we do hand-sample ID and memorization of the systems. In petrology, we've only looked at one sample w/ a microscope so far, but I dont know if we're going to look at any more. Its also more like a: what crystallizes out of the magma first, bowen reaction series, phase diagrams, magma composition...and how we tied all that together from the rocks we've looked at. Im truly despising my major right now...*sigh* :\
