This entry made me smile quietly... :) I love going home but also dread it because I immediately revert to a five year old mentality when I have to leave my parents - it's almost heartbreaking... As for New York, it's a tough town to get to love... It's taken me over a year and a break up that had me terrified of coming back here cause I always thought of it as "his city" to understand just what this city has to offer. I don't know if that's for everyone, but give it time and allow yourself to feel out of place because one day you just might find yourself at home.
It'll get better. Really. You've only just begun here, like me. We'll figure this place out, and then you'll be able to go visit your parents all the time because you'll be raking in the dough, working three days a week, and renting out your place in the Hamptons during the winter (and summer when you have that fabulous vacation in Ibiza).
the founder of domino's sold the company, so i don't think you're contributing to the building of Catholic City, not unless he's still a stock holder.
when did you move to NYC?
i got here in the summer of 1997. i was in theater, and that probably made it easier to adjust...actors can become insta-friends...just add water!
maybe joining the Street Singers would be really good for you. not only will you get to meet and sing with some very interesting people (especially ME), but you'll also have an opportunity to sing in some cool venues and, of course, on the streets in many different neighborhoods. when you give back to the City (in the form of free concerts), the City gives back to you. your adoring fans are waiting. and i'm looking forward to getting to know you better, too.

When I was 25, I also left home and moved clear across the country. In my case it was San Francisco and I have to admit it was hard at first. I missed home, family, friends and NYC. I loathed SF and all that came with it. I was ready to retreat after 6 months. But...I sort of couldn't. I promised myself that I would now be so hasty. And of course, I had no money to return home or a home to return to since my parents moved into a retirement community months after I left. Hmmmm...did they suspect something
