Ooooh! Shiny pink!

Riedel currently has a limited edition set of pink O wine tumblers. Like all things pink in October, 15% percent of the purchase price will be donated to a breast cancer charity: Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

And their front page image is divided into a bunch of little strips, so I can't yank the image. Sorry.

So I'm not against selling things with the profit going to charity...but as a person that would like to support breast cancer charities who is also a hater of the pink...why does it *all* have to be pink?

It's very identifiable. Having hordes of stuff that's all the same color keeps it on people's radar. Seriously, they've done a really good job of tying the color pink to breat cancer fund-raising. When I first saw the pink KitchenAid stand mixer, I assumed it was a fundraising piece. And, much funnier, when I saw the Shakers Rose Vodka, my first thought was Vodka for the Cure™, even though I knew full well that it was just a vodka that happens to have a good and logical reason for being pink.

I understand that aspect. It's just very discouraging to me because I've hated that color my whole life...so I feel like I can't participate in that way. I participate in other ways, but...it's not quite the same.

Likewise. I don't hate pink anymore, and have come to believe that there is a time and a place for everything, even pink. That doesn't make me any more capable of purchasing a pink appliance. I would love for everyone to know that I support breast cancer research, but a pink blender? Ew. So I settled for the pink glasses, which are actually quite tasteful. Republic of Tea makes a lovely Sip for the Cure line of green teas (and pink grapefruit marmalade by Stonewall Kithens). I've only ever had the pink grapefruit flavor, and it was quite good.
