If it's sweet, it must be marketing to children

Via Overlawyered, it seems CSPI is taking on Anheuser-Busch and Miller, which are engaged in the "reprehensible practice ... [of] spiking malt beverages with stimulants flavoring them in a way that attracts young drinkers." My favorite bit:

These companies are intentionally flavoring these drinks to make them attractive to very young drinkers. ( Read more... )

Interesting. In my family, it was traditional for kids to have a very small glass of wine with special dinners. When I was 16 and someone gave me a wine cooler, I didn't believe it was booze. I do enjoy a fruity drink once in a while, but usually stick with rum and coke or wine. It's become a running joke that my boyfriend will order my drink and I'll have to order his strawberry daiquiri or whatever fruity, whipped drink he really wants, because he likes the "girly" drinks better and is embarrassed.

I've never developed a taste for Scotch or gin, however. I like the way they smell, but they're just a bit much for me to actually drink.

I *love* the stuff that tastes like soda. I even got a local liquor store to start carrying "Hootch" after I had it in England. mmmmm

Then again, I've been told that I'm a "youthful adult...like the adults on Sesame Street." So I guess I drink was Bob, Gordon, and Maria would like. :D

I like fruity drinks! I also don't like much alcohol in my fruity drinks, as too much will put me right to sleep. Does that make me twelve?

Wait, I also like wine. Hmm. Conundrum!

And your taste in wine is hardly juvenile. You like sweet whites, but you also like Sancerre rouge, which is definitely a "grown-up wine." :)
