They're talking about immigration and assimilation into American culture on NPR this afternoon. Inviting people to call in to talk to their guests, the announcer asks, "what does assimilation mean to you?" I just can't hear that word without thinking of the Borg. TNG was a huge plus of being sick. Yesterday had the two-parter "Chain of Command" where Picard is captured and tortured. Not the finest acting in the world, but I loved watching the show.

I think "borg" has kind of entered the common lexicon, too. Whenever I see people walking around with the bluetooth earpiece for their phone, I mention to whomever is with me that they are Borg. So far, I haven't needed to explain the reference.
