Wait, vacation is over already?

I meant to post sooner, but I've been busy doing everything I've been putting off all vacation. Last night I stayed up until about two in the morning cleaning my room (that I had to stay up so late should give you an idea of how messy it was), today I finally did my laundry, and right now I'm putting together a lesson plan for my classes tomorrow. OMG!!!! You almost got hit by a bus. Thank goodness you didn't, someone is watching over you up there! You would have never lived that accident down. We are well here, not visiting Paris or anything that exciting, It has been a lovely weekend, it was 81, but not too hot, all the flowers are starting to bloom and when you walk outside you can smell them, very heady. My azaela bushes are full of blooms and the yellow jasmine is wonderfully full. I am exhausted, stayed up late to watch the Oscars, and it is way pass my bedtime. I think Athena was over tonight watching them with Sarah, I haven't seen her since Christmas. I guess I will have to go to BAM and see if she is working. I love you, Grandma got your letter and Adam came over to her house Sat. and showed her some pictures and She thought it was so sweet that you sent Sable doggie treats all the way from France. She also liked the part of your letter where you mentioned her mailbox, and the dogs barking. Those dogs are still there. Grandma tried to clean her mailbox ( ... )

It's still cold here and there's nothing in bloom! I mailed Grandma a box the same day I mailed her letter, do you know if she's gotten it yet? It had some pictures and some French nougat in it. I also mailed a few postcards from Paris home today.

To give you a recap of the Academy Awards, of course, Daniel Day-Lewis won! Yay! Marion Cotillard won for Best Actress, and her speech was quite amusing. She was so overwhelmed you could see her hands shaking the whole time, and then she just started blubbering and said, "Thank you, life! Thank you, love!" It was awesome. And the make-up artists for La Vie En Rose also won and gave another great French speech. "Zell... I don't know zut to say!" I was looking at Marion's Wikipedia page and apparently she played Tina Lombardi in A Very Long Engagement, who I think was the prostitute (?) who murdered that guy and was then sentenced to death. And she's also dating a French actor named Guillaume Canet, who was in Joyeaux Noel, which I know you saw and liked. I rather want to see La Vie now. Athena and I had fun watching it and making sarcastic comments to each other. I wish you'd been here too!

They recapped the major awards very briefly on CNN International, but they didn't say much else about them. I wish I could have seen it all, especially with those awesome acceptance speeches by French people! Are you sure that's what the makeup artist said? Because usually it's TH, not W, that they replace with Z (ALL of my students do this).

Well, it was sort of a combo between z and v. It's hard to explain. You might be able to find them on YouTube. Marion also thanked the director for "rocking her world!" She really didn't have as much of an accent as I expected.

Addendum: I have an assignment for you. If you go to oscar.com, you can look at the Thank You Cam videos, where winners can thank people they forgot when they come off stage. What is Marion saying in French in hers? I think part of it was "thank you to my country," but what was the rest? Her video was amusing, at the end she just says, "I'm shaking! I'm shaking!" and walks off. Ha!

Did you happen to take the Holocaust Lit course offered at LSU? I took it in 2005, but I was somewhat disappointed with it. It might have had more to do with Dr. Gage's grating presence than with the material he chose.
