The hottest summer ever finds Rebecca melted into a puddle!

The temps here have been no joke this summer. Constant daily highs at/over 100° since June! I don't usually complain about the Texas heat, but this is too much even for me. My chocolate gets melty just from sitting in the cabinet, and once when I accidentally touched the seat-belt buckle in my car, I screamed out loud. A few other blurbs about the summer so far:

~ I got a new laptop sometime in late May. I'd had the old one since back here, and it still worked, but just barely. It was so slow to start up and do everything else. It is so nice having one that actually runs properly again! I feel like a million bucks actually get Wifi reception in my bedroom (where I'm typing this right now).

~ We had to have a new circuit breaker installed on the house last month after a breaker tripped. Our whole house lost power while I was taking a shower, which was a little scary. I also bought us a new fire alarm after the old one in the kitchen started going off for no apparent reason. That was also scary: nobody likes hearing their fire alarm go off in the middle of the night, especially after you've watched your next-door neighbor's house burn down. The old one was very old and had been here already when we moved in, so I think it was just past its shelf life.

~ We had a little second birthday party for Lydia two weeks ago. We splashed around in the hose and ate watermelon and ice-cream pizza. Sara bought a whole watermelon, which got pretty messy, but Lydia loved it and had a slice in her hand for most of the afternoon. I realized too late that she hid a Carmex tube in the dryer when we weren't looking, and a few of my clothes have spots that won't come out. But I'm glad we did it, since Athena and the kids are now back in SC with her parents. Their blueberry bush is staying with us, and amazingly, we haven't killed it yet!

~ As of last weekend, we've been giving trying to give Tovah daily pills for her hyperthyroid condition. We're only a few days in, and it's already too stressful! We've slipped the pill into lunch meat and cheese and other foods that she loves, but she is too good at eating around it. It breaks my heart to have to hold her down and force it in her mouth. :'(

~ Currently reading Tuck Everlasting and An American Marriage. I posted back here about how I love seeing coincidences in what I read. Two years ago this summer, I was reading Silver Sparrow when Lydia was born, and this summer, I was reading An American Marriage by the same author when she turned 2. :)

~ Oh, and PS: Our garage door just stopped working! Fun.

tovah, summer, house stuff, fun times
