I love that The Breeders, IIRC, pretty much begged to be on the show and had already been covering the Buffy theme live for years.
But yeah, "Blue" is a brilliant song. Starting with that great scene of the musicians unpacking their instruments while they splash the episode title on the screen for the only time in the whole series - perfect song choice for an episode that's going to start picking at the seams of the story.
The Breeders not only rock like a boss, they are True Fans, and bless 'em for both of those things. I read one interview with, I think, Kim Deal saying that they had a gig the night of series finale and were so upset about missing it that they seriously considering canceling.
So many other great bands and songs appeared throughout. The Dandy Warhols are big favorites of mine, and I loved the use of Rasputina, Garbage, Nikka Costa, and Laika, too. I suppose I should be totally honest and admit that I also love The Sundays version of "Wild Horses" in The Prom even if I am so ready for Angel to be gone at that point that the idea behind it makes me a little anxious. Still, Marianne Faithful'll get you when you least expect, amirite? Actually, I like all the music played at the prom.
Yep. I hadn't quite realized how involved Angie Hart, Splendid, and Ms. Hart's husband, Jesse Tobias (the other half of Splendid), were with BtVS and other Whedon projects. Tobias was co-music director for OMWF, for instance, and Ms. Hart sang backup on "Under Your Spell". I just love finding creative communities.
I always think that "Bohemian Like You" by the Dandy Warhols would have been the perfect Parker song, but it didn't actually get released until a year after HLOD, alas.
