I look at the kids that come into my library in East Cleveland every day and think, "That could happen to any one of them." It's horrifying and saddening and I wish I knew what I could do about it. That article on Asymmetric Insight was fascinating. I had no idea a study like that was done, but it's so true and still pervasive in every day culture. It reminds me of how people at work only interact and associate with certain people. I try to make sure I'm friendly to everyone, but I know that my biases shine through

I like to think things are getting better. Cleveland is still a segregated city, but it's less so than when I was young. (In some areas.) But yes. How can people blithely ignore the systemic injustice?? I... gaaah!
I wish this didn't sound all too familiar - echos of Hough and Glenville. The national guard coming in. How many more?
It's just like the ppl who say that that guy who went AWOL should've been left to die in Iraq. No, he should be brought back and court martialed and served justice according to our legal system. People really do think that the ends justify the means.
... or they think that rule of law should only apply to themselves. Are we a country of laws, or a country of might-makes-right? Sadly, I fear a lot of these people do wish it were the latter. They can't imagine themselves being in the weaker position.
