There is nothing wrong with loving holidays. HOLIDAYS ROCK. Less than a month till Beltaine, WOO!
I remember a pretty neat show on the History Channel a while back about how the eruption/destruction of Santorini could have theoretically caused all ten of Egypt's plagues in a perfectly scientific manner. There's some pretty fierce debate about whether the timing matches up with when the exodus was "supposed" to have happened, but I can easily see how crazy shit like volcano-induced weirdass death and destruction could have been spun into the tale. In ancient times, they didn't have Snopes or the Mythbusters to crack these things.
There's nothing wrong with loving holidays irrespective of religion at all. In fact, Jewish people somewhat commonly don't truly believe in God or their religion, but still fastidiously celebrate the holidays and hold the commandments and follow the culture. And actually... I can't find much evidence in the old testament that it isn't ok to do so. Nowhere does it say that belief is required, simply that following the commandments is. Pesach starts on my birthday this year. I've only been to one seder, but it was fun. There's puppets and everything! I ate gefilte fish and loved it. WOO!

Holidays are more about ritual and celebration than religion. And I do hate it when folks try to put religion into my holidays!
