What did we ever do to you? Eight inches of snow and counting overnight? Doesn't that seem a bit extreme to you?

I'm just relieved that I didn't get around to pulling out all of the leaf cover I've had on my bulbs in my garden over the winter yet. I had planned to do it Monday but got sidetracked. Let's hear it for procrastination!

Do you not normally get much snow?

We have wind wind wind and more wind, with a scoop of wind. Plus - cold! Yay! :)

Do we usually get much snow? Let me put it this way: I saw an ad on the side of a bus yesterday looking to hire daffodil pickers to start work immediately. My crocuses are in full bloom, my snowdrops are on the way out and my tulips had already started to bud. Hopefully everything is still alive under there.

Normally we get a couple of dustings of no more than an inch or two a year. A dump of 8-10 inches in seven or so hours with more on its way is a once in a decade or so experience. People still talk about the big blizzard of 1996 in hushed tones.

The cops are asking people to stay home whenever possible because people here don't know how to drive in the snow and even if they do, most of them don't have snow tires.

In other words, it's a big ol' mess round these parts. I'm taking the day to wear fluffy socks, cuddle my cat and sit in front of my electric fireplace watching re-runs of Glee. So all in all, not a dead loss; there may even be some hot chocolate involved later on;-)

Ah ha ha. Poor you! Or, well, not really - cats and hot chocolate! And fuzzy sox - my favorite thing. :)

Nothing is blooming here yet - we're stilling dipping below freezing at night. Probably won't be warm enough for blooming things for another three or four weeks. Probably. But we have had snow in April, so.....
