From an artistic experiment perspective, I'd judge this a success. I can very clearly see how you backtracked concepts and built the plot through the reverse chronology, but it works in this context. From an emotional perspective, this is just gut-wrenchingly sad. Especially in how it's still open-ended, and while you can hope that there's this chance that things might resolve in a way that at least gives Nick some degree of closure (which he's clearly not taking away from the not-breakup), common sense tells you that it's just never going to go where you might wish it would.

(and I can't honestly remember if I've dropped you a line before, but I've been making my way through your various projects/works, and you've got a real flare for pacing. I have yet to read one of your writing projects that I haven't enjoyed, regardless of my personal interest/lack-thereof regarding a particular pairing)

More seriously, though, I'm especially pleased you remarked on the structure and experimental nature of the fic. As I said to my friends before I started writing, it could have been spectacular, or a spectacular disaster. ;D

I think you may have commented before, yes, but thank you for that! Pacing is a hard thing to get right, and as I'm in the process of working on an original novel, it helps to know I can pace things successfully--hopefully that will carry over. :D
