Pretty much the same here. It seems like they spent the last five years pounding it into our heads that Merlin and Arthur were going to build a happy rainbow and candy land where magic flowed free and everyone was at peace and danced a lot.

Then it never happened.

The way they did the magic reveal was great for it being over the course of one episode, but personally I think it should have happened at the beginning of the season and had it reveal from there, had revoked the ban on sorcery, and then had the final battle with Morgana and Mordred - which was really glossed over, you're right.

One thing I'm super glad about was that Merlin told Arthur, that he didn't find out some other way.

On the whole I'm disappointed, my little Arwen shipper heart is broken, but I still just can't believe it's over just like that. There could have been so much more. Their 5 year plan skipped over about 20 years of legend.

I think I caught up with the series too late to think about it, but while I was still watching the earlier seasons, I thought they'd reveal the magic at the tenth episode at least :(

Yesss, I think it would have broken my heart into even smaller pieces (I don't know how that could be possible tbh) if Arthur found out some other way.

The only good thing about this "could have been more" ending is the amount of fan-made work it will produce. Hopefully it keeps the fandom alive for quite a while! A number of anime I really like have sort-of dying fandoms and I'd hate the Merlin family to die out like that.

Seriously, I was thinking like 3rd season or so and then it just never happened. Really really silly.

Oh, I don't think we have to worry about that with the Merlin fandom. I mean, I haven't been a part of it for very long, but I've been aware of it, and when a fandom makes that much noise that it bleeds over into non-fan places, you know it's devoted. There are some fandoms that just seem to last forever. Buffy, for instance, dying yes, but dead never.

And I am happy to contribute to the Merlin fandom, offering up my humble work at its altar if it will help. ;)

Good thoughts. I was thinking much the same (during those rare moments when my brain managed to crawl out from under the haze of alcohol and emotional devestation, ha ( ... )

Ugh, I agree with everything you said about Gwaine. The little interaction between him and that blonde girl Eira showed a bit more of his gentle, serious side, but I feel like it was not enough. It would've been nice if they had explored his character using something other than a love interest and implied lovey-dovey time.

And yes, they did fail to wow. Funny how they kept on talking about ending the show on a high... I wonder if they were referring to this kind of "high" all along (fans getting high on alcohol/tempers shooting high/both, haha).

At least we know the fandom won't die so easily!
