christmas time is here again

Dec 23, 2010 19:46

[There is a sign pointing towards the ballroom, which has been decked out for Christmas. There is a tree waiting to be decorated. There is a table with cookies and a Christmas cake and snacks and things. There is a buffet line for dinner and a bar set up with champagne and eggnog and various drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic. There are paper ( Read more... )

[Kate is wandering through the party, carrying herself with the awkward anxiety of one not accustomed to them; her eyes widen when they focus on her gift, and she heads over

she carefully opens the bag, and when she pulls out the pillow, a soft smile lights her features

she looks at Sawako, smile widening]

It's beautiful.

[inside a neatly wrapped box with ribbons and all and a label that reads "The Most Ridiculous Doctor (with the spiky hair and the skinny pinstripe suits)" there are a pair of glow in the dark banana boxers.]

[he makes at the label, letting out a noise in protest from being called the Most Ridiculous Doctor (he's sure that title still belongs to his sixth incarnation), but it doesn't last long. he recognises the handwriting and knows it's all in good fun.

and when he opens the gift--after plopping the ribbons on top of his Father Christmas hat--he bursts out laughing] I didn't think they made these! [he grins, positively chuffed]

[an ornately wrapped gift is set down for Shun. The boxes and ribbons and tinsel and wrapping are all very expensive. In fact, they probably cost at least twenty times more than the contents of the packages. When Shun does open his gifts he'll find a supply of instant coffee and ramen noodles.]

[The wrapping dazzles Shun a bit when he sees it and he has to check a second time to make sure it's for him before he opens it. He's faintly puzzled by the contents for a moment, but that only lasts a second. It's still a gift for him and someone obviously went through a lot of trouble to wrap this. Besides, after having to catch half his meals for years, he's learned to appreciate free food.] This is really helpful!

[the Doctor, who is wearing a rather long Father Christmas hat, sets a large garishly wrapped box down as close to the tree as he can get it and then backs up a ways to wait for his gift's recipient. tied to the big, red bow set atop the box is a tag that reads "For Ai" and has a little smiley face drawn underneath the words. within are two gifts (because he had no idea what to get a child, but since he's met Ai before, he figured he ought to give her something he would've felt was useful.)

so! one gift, that is also wrapped, looks like a child-sized briefcase and is thin and light, however within the impossibly spacious interior are all sorts of scientific instruments (micro and nanoscopes, Bunsen burners--the sort of things any 23rd century field scientist would need when away from the lab), equipment (test tubes, beakers, etc) and your basic set of solutions and chemicals that could be dangerous if spilled altogether, but everything is of a safe radiation level for humans (the Doctor has made sure of this ( ... )

[ Originally she hadn't expect to be receiving any presents. Of course she knew about the Secret Santa and all, but she figured that it would have been forgotten and was perfectly fine about it. Which is why she was rather surprised to see the large package addressed to her under the bottom branches of the tree ( ... )

[oh, he made sure he was in a position where he could see her expression, and is grinning broadly as he approaches her] Yup! Anything your above-average budding scientist in the 23rd century could ask for! Well--[he looks away very briefly, acting innocent]--almost everything. I added a few extra things.

[he squats down near her, still madly grinning like a loon] Oh yes! The science kits they make earlier than that cover only the lowest of rudimentary scientific processes. Just as you're starting to have fun, you've blown through the entire kit and have to wait two to three weeks for replacements to run the same tired and boring experiments! These ones are far more fun.

[ It's safe to say that she's pretty much speechless at all this. Rummaging through the contents of the briefcase she listens to him ramble on, marveling at it all. But finally she manages to set it down just long enough to look up at him and say: ] ... Thank you.

[he's used to that sort of reaction. so! he simply reaches out to hug her, his voice soft and gentle as he says:] Merry Christmas, Ai.

[awww, it's probably good she did because he would have hugged her anyway!] Just...be careful you don't leave some of those pieces of equipment and chemicals lying around. They won't be discovered for some time and it wouldn't be good for them to be found before then.

[Donna debates whether she should leave the oddly-shaped (and wrapped) gift underneath the tree or if she should simply wait for a bit. she'd hate to have gone through all that trouble just for it to be knocked over and broken on accident! plus this is a bit different than any other Secret Santa thing she's done (but at least she's bound not to get any office supplies--or so she hopes.) so she waits, gift still cradled in her arm, and casually looks around, a big, puffy red bow wrapped around the neck of the gift with a tag dangling from it and over her arm a bit that reads, "For Braxy, love Donna" in very neat and clear handwriting.]
