Anyone who works near/with/by/for a union can see this if they open their eyes.....unfortunately they never do. There are so many people I wish I could shoehorn understanding of this info straight into their brain.
I'm a county employee and even though I'm not required to join the union and as of yet, not required to pay "collective bargaining" money out of my check, my job is part of a bargaining unit. For people who are too lazy or too intimidated or whatever to negotiate their own salary and benefits, the union takes care of it. But I resent the fact the unions are meddling in the first place. I'm a legal professional, I'm not a factory worker. I'd probably do a lot better salary-wise and promotion-wise if I could make the case myself with my employer.
You were almost able to, but Clinton stopped that. Current Federal law prohibits an individual from negotiating for themselves if their job is covered by a union. The GOP congress repealed this law, but Clinton vetoed the bill, claiming it was "unAmerican." Um....the FREEDOM to negotiate for yourself is unAmerican?!?!? Yet another reason he was a piece of crap who served during the LUCKIEST presidential terms.
It was also because Americans were half-asleep. Who cares if the president would rather chase chubby interns while terrorists were blowing things up; everyone's stock in Crap.com was through the roof!
