I don't know about economically, but it's the right that wins the award for trying to control our social lives (women's rights and gay rights in particular). Of course, now that I think about it, the left does the same with gun rights. Why do both our major parties suck?

Because they are filled with people who no longer concern themselves with the wishes of those they were elected to represent, and instead concentrate on getting themselves re-elected, by whatever means are expedient to achieving that goal, whether it involves the "great political lie", or what have you.
