I know someone online who is saying this is showing the dying of the GOP. Thoughts?

I know of people online who claim that the space emperor Xenu flew billions of people to earth on "space planes" and blew them up around volcanos. Then captured their souls on ribbons and made them watch a "super colossal motion picture".

They're probably more right than the person you're refering too.

They're both a bit fruity?

I do think it's a bit more like comparing pecans and pistachios.

The funny thing is even in the press the liberals try to spin the defeat as a victory.

It's not a victory, but it's still an achievement and can be taken as a sign of progress. According to that AP article, "Portman held the seat for 12 years, consistently winning with more than 70 percent of the vote in the Cincinnati-area district." Obviously you can't compare Schmidt and Portman directly...but still, Schmidt has prior experience and only won by 52% against Hackett, who to the best of my knowledge was a political newcomer.
When a rookie steals that kind of support from an area that's solidly been in the opposing party's grasp, it's still pretty impressive.

I mean reality_hammer can say that this and that didn't work well for Hackett...but if that was true, Schmidt really should have had a margin of victory a lot closer to the ones Portman used to have. Instead she managed to lose a considerable portion of the district that had voted Republican in the past.

Jean Schmidt is no Rob Portman.

She voted for higher taxes, etc. A lot of conservative voters stayed home, epecially the ones who were bitter about losing McEwen in the primary.

Since it seems like you're basically saying Jean Schmidt isn't a great example of conservative values....why do you think she won the primary? Cuz it seems to me like that's also saying something about voter's tastes.
