So says Angela Merkel:
BERLIN (AFP) - Germany's attempt to create a multi-cultural society has failed completely, Chancellor Angela Merkel said at the weekend, calling on the country's immigrants to learn German and adopt Christian values.
Hmmm, how long before people start calling her a racist redneck Republican who hates brown people ( Read more... )

The problem isn't Germany, but rather with, ah, certain elements of the population which may live in Germany, but are not of it, historically and culturally. Hey, it takes two to tango, and apparently Muslims would rather rhumba, so Germany has been trying to hold up both ends of the dance all by herself when it comes to German Muslims. Doesn't work very well.

I dunno, I don't think it was racist per se, but I do think the statement could have been worded a little better, but then again I guess there really is no other way to word something like that.

Perhaps it came out better in German. Translations are notoriously unreliable. I still agree with her concerns, though. Sometimes the truth, even when harsh and not politically correct, needs to be said.

Yeah, I was going to say, I don't think "Redneck Republican" will be the insult, I think it will be references to the 1930s and a certain German Worker's Party

What I find interesting in this is that elements of the Turkish government are urging the Turks in Germany to learn the language and customs of their new home nation.

And then the conspiracy theorist in me thinks, 'Hmmmm ... would that be so the Turks in Germany can eventually subvert German politics, ala 1933, take over, and convert Germany to an "Islamic Republic"? Wouldn't put it past them ...'

Turkish aspiration of making the whole Europe an Islamic something (a Sultanate previously) is as old as 500 years. Now they might be changing their strategy: instaed of getting an army invaded they get it born and grow on-site.

I do believe that you are correct. As I stated above, I wouldn't put it past them.
