Criminalizing dissent

Dec 06, 2009 04:05

Democrats give something for the Obama Department of Injustice to do: arrest bloggers, independent journalists and anyone else who dares expose the criminal activities of Democrats.

Do you understand yet that it really is slavery we are talking about here?

Been passing that around to some of the liberals on my lists who are reasonable. The reactions have been really... interesting. Most of them flat flipped when they read the bill, and then it got worse when they read about the offer to bail out the papers for government influence.

We live in interesting times. By interesting I mean ... dangerous.

Thank you for showing us this.

I predicted this, before the last election. And it fell on deaf ears. Damn...

And do you notice how they are bent on "killing Conservatism with a thousand little cuts"? Meaning, just when one outrageous thing is attempted... Another outrageous thing comes right along, in its shadow. Over and over and over and over... Drip... Drip... Drip...

Ever since Democrats regained control of Congress they've accelerated their efforts to make opposing them a crime.

That would be because journalist shield laws are intended to protect journalists, not any and every asshole who thinks that having a blog makes him the likes of Walter Cronkite. Journalists employed by actual businesses can be fired for fucking things up, and there's a level of civil responsibility inherent in such a job. But J. Random Blogger has no responsibility to make sure any of the information he posts is correct or accurate, or even remotely linked to reality.

I'm not saying it's a good idea or that it should be passed. I'm saying there is a difference between an actual journalist, and everybody who happens to have a Blogspot account.

A journalist is not defined by who they work for.

Indeed, our nation was born amongst anonymous journalists promoting freedom and liberty. Anonymity in voting, our rights to privacy, etc. are a cornerstone of our liberty in this country.

If journalists were "responsible" and "held to account" for their actions then most of the MSM would long ago have lost their jobs.

Considering that the first state shield law wasn't passed until 1898 (in Maryland), the Founding Fathers didn't exactly have the protection of them to begin with. Despite this, yes, some of them, including supposedly, Benjamin Franklin's brother James was jailed for refusing to name a source ( ... )

Much of our professional news media is in reality state-run/party-run media and more of the real reporting is falling to guys with blogspot accounts. The line between professional and amateur is getting blurred. In fact, a lot of news is being broken now by blogs and websites.

I hope you're not suggesting that we rely on the "good intentions" of Democrats in Congress.

Getting the word out ahead of their plans is essential to stopping them.

Once the bill is passed it is far too late to do anything about it.
