Well I use Photoshop CS4 which has some awesome features. =D so I basically use curves, selective coloring, color balance, hue/saturation and vibrance. it all depends on the images that I icon, since some can be dark and others can be really light.

I don't think they're that different though but I just play around too :) That's the best way to learn really. Good luck with it :)
