Paul Krugman fans the flames of racism

Krugman blames Republicans for racial strife in the south.
Consider voting in last year’s Congressional elections. Republicans, as President Bush conceded, received a “thumping,” with almost every major demographic group turning against them. The one big exception was Southern whites, 62 percent of whom voted Republican in House races.

What does that have to do with the situation in Jena? Nothing. However by tying together what is happening with the word "Republican" liberals hope to cement in the minds of Americans that racism == Republicans.

This is typical of today's liberals who wish to rewrite 150 years of Democrat racism in the south as a "Republican" phenomenon.

Krugman tells numerous lies in his opinion piece (which is neatly outside of any fact-finding burden). First he claims that whites in the south are racist. Wow, isn't that the definition of prejudice, labeling an entire group as "X"? Yep.

Next he claims that Ronald Reagan kicked off his 1980 campaign by appealing to racists. I debunked that claim almost two decades ago. That doesn't stop people like Krugman-people with no regard for the truth-from repeating the Big Lie that he did.

Krugman also repeats the myth of the "Southern Strategy" which allegedly won Nixon the south. Except that Nixon lost the south to the Democrats and Democrat-separatists who called themselves "Dixiecrats". Wow, that's some strategy!

For the real "Southern Strategy" you need only look to the Democrats again:

White Southern Male Candidates (since WWII) for President and Vice-President through the 2004 election

Democrats (including those running on 3rd party tickets)Republicans (including those running on 3rd party tickets)

Strom Thurmond, Fielding Wright, John Sparkman, Estes Kefauver, Harry Byrd, Lyndon Johnson, George Wallace, Jimmy Carter, Lloyd Bensten, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Edwards
George W. Bush

And once again the Democrats are being offered a black candidate for President, as they were 20 years ago. Where are the liberal pundits demanding the nomination of Barack Obama?

Krugman goes on to claim that Republicans are "dissing" Hispanics because they won't debate...in Spanish. Hello? How many Democrat debates have been held in Spanish? President Bush often speaks in Spanish to the Hispanic audience yet you don't see Paul Krugman touting this as evidence that the Republicans are not racists. Indeed, he offers it as proof at Republicans are racists (though Hispanic is an ethnicity, not a race) because none of the current candidates speak Spanish. Once again, which Democrat speaks Spanish and where are they in the polls?

Republicans are not racist, nor are their voters. People like Krugman, however, are racist and their attempts to divide America along racial and ethnic lines will not work like they did in the 1970s. People who know the truth can and will debunk Krugman every time he tries to fan the flames of racism.

Update: Newsbusters nabs Krugman, too.
