Great news! The
Board of Trustees for Central High School has approved the plan to fire all the teachers following their rejection of an improvement plan.
The vote came after weeks of debate on how school Superintendent Frances Gallo believed the school, one of the poorest performing in the state, could be improved.
Gallo announced earlier this month that she would have no choice but to propose firing all the teachers after the Central Falls Teachers Union refused to accept her improvement plan.
The teacher's union shot itself in the foot by responding to a proposal to reimburse teachers for part of their summer work at a rate of $30/hour (equivalent to $60K a year) with a demand for $90/hour ($180K a year), among other things. I'm thinking the teachers are going to vote for new leadership real soon now.
Hmmm...I wonder how much it would cost to move to Rhode Island? I wouldn't mind teaching there at a 50% higher pay rate than the local one...even if I do have to give up living in Ohio. :D
