I need to get my flu shot - hopefully I'll take care of that this weekend.

Are "round birthdays" like 30, 40, 50? Is it customary to give larger gifts in these years? $500 each for a gift seems awfully high! But then, my family was always very cheap when it came to birthday gifts - especially once we were more than 8 or 9 years old - we always got a cake, but that's about it!

Yes, that's "round birthdays". My sister is going to be 50 years old, and my mother 70. (Sheesh, imagine having a kid at the age of 20...) And it is customary to give bigger gifts, although of course how big is "big" depends on how much you can afford and how much the person in question is really into minute calculations of birthdays. I know my sister certainly expects something special for her 50th birthday, and I expect her husband will have to arrange some big party and we'll all have to make a big fuss. My mom is less fussy about these things, but she already mentioned to me how old she is today (and her birthday is not until June), so I suppose there is some extra expectation there, too. Sigh.

I can not recommend Piaggio enough. That thing will last you forever ;-)!

Yay for a 250. Make sure you don't save on tires, mind....

Well, you know, modern scooters are not like your good old Vespa... Nowadays they have fuel injection, which mean they are controlled by delicate electronics, which in turn make them less robust.

Of course I won't save on tires, or brakes, or anything else that has to do with safety. It's not as if I wear my tires that much - most of my rides are work commutes, rides to the supermarket on the other side of Tel-Aviv, and the like. I'll be able to travel to my mom's more smoothly, though.
