So I came home today and wrote. A lot. At least it feels like I wrote a lot. In reality the length of my story hasn't increased much, thanks to the word count limit. I never realized how hard it was to tell a well-developed story in 5000 words or less! I think I needed at least 2000 to set up the backstory...and I really would have liked to ( Read more... )

Thank you. I don't *love* the story, but over time I think I'll grow to like it. Hopefully.

IDEA: Once it's done for publishing, you can add to it so that you like it more, like, forgetting about word count and, possibly, clarity.

Just make it a story you're proud of.

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, I'd already been intending to do that; I think that with about another 5000 words I can make it into something *really* good.

I was looking back at the best short story I think I've written and I saw that it was about 9500 words. Guess I'm not too good at being concise!

You're incredible, Candace. I'm sure you've heard that from a lot of people, but I honestly mean it. Most people dream and never act, but not you, you actually turn those far off ideas into something tangible.

Don't let the writer's block get you down. As I said to the other Steph only a while ago, the simple fact that you are distressed by a lack of things to write probably means you're meant to be a writer. How many other people do you know who mope around because they *can't* hear the voices in their heads?

If there's anything I can do, let me know. Just remember: you will get out of it alive. I promise.
