One Perfect Paragraph

Oct 04, 2007 23:01

So my assignment for Monday's creative writing class is to bring in a single paragraph of published literature that I find true/real/loved. Here are the preliminary candidates (there are probably a lot of them, and the list will probably grow over time rather than shrink like I need it to).

from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, by J. K. ( Read more... )

I love the one from White Night, and am partial to the one from Phantom as well.

:) That's probably one of the better assignments since... ever.

The White Night one is probably what I'm going to use. I dunno...it just seems like the right paragraph for this assignment. Then again, a better one will probably grab me by the shoulders and stare me in the eyes between now and Monday.

The Pride and Prejudice one is great... but the Harry one is inspiring. And, though I've never read it, the "Grave Peril" one seems interesting.

Yeah...that paragraph from HP makes me sit back and just think about the world...

You should read Jim Butcher. I'm not sure if you'd like him, but the first book in this series is Storm Front. It's supernatural mystery stories set in present-day Chicago. The protagonist is Harry Dresden, Chicago's only publically practicing wizard (he's in the yellow pages). Murphy is a good friend of his who also happens to be a cop with the Chicago PD, and that paragraph occurs when she's about to save his ass. :)
