hey, ho, the wind and the rain

It's not too bad right here, right now, but this is predicted to be the worst nor'easter to hit Long Island in about 15 years. It's being compared to the Halloween storm of 1991 (I think that was the one where we had seven flood tides in four days), the storm of December 1992, and the "Superstorm" of March 1993 (I think that was the one where we ( Read more... )

Mmmm pecan pie.....I have a beef roast in the oven starting to cook.

I have seem to go all domestic all of the sudden. The house is clean (well to the point that we could have company over and not wince) and the laundry is almost done.

We have lost a couple of branches but so far (crossing fingers) that's it. On occation the wind sounds like a freight train except that one case when it turned out to be the local train pulling in. Power, so far, has not been a problem.

Peter finally ventured out of the house to go bowling but that is going to be the only excursion for us today.

I only poked my nose out to do laundry this morning. I'm very, very glad I wasn't scheduled to work today.

How are things looking for you up there? I keep hearing about the nor'easter, but in MN the worst thing we get is tornadoes and straight line winds.

Yah know, I've never had pecan pie. Need to try that some day. And real key lime pie. Hmmm.

I think I really need to go eat some food. ::grin::

It's been okay here. My street was half flooded this morning, and I had to go the long way around to avoid the low spot by the tracks, but nothing major. This evening's high tide is expected to be another moderate flood, but I should be home by then.

Pecan pie is excellent *if* you get a good one. Most commercial pecan pies are a thin layer of nuts over too much filling. The good kind is mostly nuts with just enough filling to hold it together. (I've seen recipes that call for only 3/4 cup of pecans; the good ones have a least 2 cups.)

Real Key lime pie is also definitely worth it--but it needs to be made with actual Key limes, which only grow in coastal areas (the salt-water soil is crucial).

"...In the meantime, I'm staying inside and nesting..."

Today's young people. When I was your age, I had to walk to school in weatehr like that. Half a mile. On flat ground. Both ways.

So did I. A couple of times I didn't have an umbrella, even.

Are you sure you're older than me? I'm not so sure.

There I go, making assumptions again. In that case... I was born the year Einstein died.
