Guys? I'm bored, and it's been too long since I did a theories post. Since I also need to practice my English analysis, I'm offering you guys the chance to select a cutscene from Dirge and have me formally analyse it according to what I've learned this year. I can't promise that my own headcanon won't sneak in, but I'll try to stick to what's ( Read more... )

There's unfortunately little for me to analyse there, mainly due to the fact that it's not in English. Usher is friendly with the player character, but the language style is formal because he's imparting information and there's no interaction between him and the PC. What else... The text is written-to-be-spoken, so it lacks the features of spontaneous speech (hesitations, repetitions, non-fluency features like 'um', 'er', etc.). The domain (topic of conversation) is Nero and Weiss... That's about all I can come up with, really. It's very hard to analyse something not in English.

Yes, but those are translations, not the texts themselves, and my answers wouldn't change substantially. Because all that's there is Usher speaking and one scream from Nero, I can't tell you much. Even though there's three people present, there's only one participant. I can say that his tone is almost persuasive in the way that he hands out information, because Shelke, through Usher, is trying to shape the character's viewpoint on Deepground.

I nominate either the Nero versus Shelke scene on the Shera (if you haven't already done so) or the scene where Hojo!Weiss kills Nero ("I won't leave you again... Never... Weiss..." Etc.).

*grin* I was hoping you'd pick the Shera scene. I'll make it super-special-awesome for you. And if I have time today, I'll even brave the stabbing scene and analyse that too.

Oh wow, that's great since I'm also quite bored as well. How about the cutscene "Weiss' Last Breath"?

I was puzzled as to whom Weiss was referring to "...Let's go join him", was he referring to Genesis? Omega? Also if Weiss is really dead all along or just weakened by the virus thus Hojo was able to overcome him in the SND world.

Your thought would be helpful, thanks. :)

I'll get onto that. ^^ Also, I think that it's most likely that when Weiss said that, he was referring to Omega, given the actions that go with the line. Weiss is likely to be pretty pissed off with Genesis when they meet again.

Azul's line before his final battle with Vincent, along the lines of "So Rosso *didn't* survive." If I've two cents about it, he sounds like half of him still doesn't believe that, and the other half... well, that's up to analysis, innit?

*chuckle* I'll look into that.

The scene between Nero and Shelke about Lucretcia. Hojo.org mentioned that he was lying about "he will be requiring your assistance". I always thought he was referring to Weiss, but when I looked more closely through a better quality TV, I found that Nero was indeed lying because he's so bad at it. You can see it in the body language.

Honestly, ALL of Nero would be preferred. :D

Isn't that a bit of an...arbitrary observation? Things like body language and tone are really subjective. Still, I will see if I can address that suspicion in my analysis. :)

Most of his scenes have been asked for, actually, so I might end up finishing off the remainder just for the hell of it. It'll probably be spread out over a couple of entries, though.

Not always. In some people, it's obvious they're lying.

I'd agree with that, but I still think to make that kind of statement about a video game character is somewhat arbitrary.
