I'm actually well pleased with how it's going. A draft has been wonderfully betaed (thank you zara_zee and I'm in the process of going through the beta suggestions, tweaking some things, changing bits and bobs. It's a bit more than 40,000 words ( Read more... )

I don't know if I *liked* it...maybe admired? Thought it was good? When the lights went up the guy in front of me said, 'That was the strangest film I have seen in a looong time'. XD

It certainly redeemed Kirsten Dunst in my esteem.

She was good in 'The Virgin Suicides' too. Shame about the films in between, though...

Hi,

I was bemoaning the lack of SPN meta and analysis I seem to be able to find on my LJ a few days ago, and memories_child sent me your way. It sounds like you're doing some really interesting work. I had a brief read of the article you had published on Becky, and I thought it was great, though I'd be really interested to hear if your opinion has changed considering her most recent episode! Anyway, pleased to 'meet' you, gonna go ahead and friend, hope that's okay.

Hi! Pleased to meet you. Yeah, I'm doing a PhD on discourse constructions in SPN fanfic - there's a little description of it here http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/jomec/contactsandpeople/phdstudents/fathallah-judith.html although it's a bit outdated now - the second construction I'm going to look at is not 'religion' anymore but 'the author [god]'. I was disappointed with how they went with Becky in S7. It makes it much harder to read her in the recuperative way I was arguing for :(

It sounds fascinating. I'm actually really excited about reading it, though I guess you might need a few years to sort all that out!

Re: Becky, I was horrifically disappointed. I had always read her as a sweet little nod to the fans in a gentle way, and the way they took her character genuinely disturbed me.

I'm pretty excited about, um, writing it. XD.
Seriously, I've done the lit review and the methodology. That took 18 months. I think it will take me about 6 months to research each discursive formation, plus time to write up. So the overall plan is that I finish like 2 years from now. Best laid and all that...;)
