I don't agree with the idea that smokers and weed users don't evangelise and don't become assholes. I've had that experience, and I think it depends on the users and the depth of their involvement with it rather than the substance itself.
My experience with weed users has been that they were very evangelical, trying to convince other people to start with lies that there are no possible negative consequences at all of using weed. It's all "it's can't be harmful, it's natural! God made weed, men made beer, who do you trust? Everyone should do it! It cures everything! It's impossible to get addicted! We'd immediately have peace if everyone was stoned!"
And if you can provide legit studies that contradict something they claimed, you're an oppressor!
This attitude is part of why weed frightens me, because I do not feel like the people pushing it are prepared to be honest.
Yeah maybe it just depends on the people....I can honestly say I've never had weed pushed on me. I have alcohol pushed on me on a regular basis. Maybe I just feel like alcohol pushing is more common because more people drink than smoke.
"it's can't be harmful, it's natural!
Lol worst argument ever. Users should be honest: it's mildly harmful. But nowhere near as harmful as booze.
Yes I think it's mainly because alcohol is more openly and commonly used that you'll find it pushed more. If you offer a joint to the wrong person you could end up in some trouble!
But when I think of who I have known who has actually used... There were more instances of alcohol being pushed but PROPORTIONALLY, the weed users happened to be more evangelical.
"It's natural" is the biggest pile of poo when used as a "weed is better than alcohol" argument... because alcohol is a naturally occurring substance too!!
Yeah, I agree with a lot of this. I'm not against pot in any major way, but the ideas that a lot of pot smokers try to promote--it's harmless, it's good for you, etc.--are a lot of BS. (I know it can be good medicinally, but I'm talking about recreational use.) I think that pot can be just as destructive to a person's life and personality as alcohol, just in quieter ways. Instead of becoming a raging asshole (which, yes, drunk raging assholes were/are very common on my father's side of the family) they become slackers who don't give a damn.
In a way, I view them in similar ways. Getting drunk every now and then on the weekend or getting stoned every now and then on the weekend--probably not a problem (assuming no driving under the influence of EITHER). Having a glass of wine every night or having a couple of puffs from a bowl every night--probably not a problem. Getting drunk or stoned multiple days a week--big problem.
