Oh yeah and Percy coming through the portrait hole made me cry, JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS FREAKING BOOK.

1. Luna, Death Eater Slayer! Bit like Ginny in the OotP movie, hm? Anyway, aww--"That was noisier than I thought it would be." I love that she's dreamy, wacked-out self, even in the worst situations.

2. Ding dong, the witch is dead. I love that the kids (and Luna!) are so happy, though I'm kind of surprised they didn't start beating her unconscious body. >_> I would have. But really, this little bit is sad at it's core--just a big sign really saying how terrible Hogwarts has been for the past year. And Hogwarts should never be in the same sentence as the word terrible. :(

3. MCGONAGALLLLL! When I read this the first time, I literally cheered. MCGONAGALL! I love that she's so utterly cold to Amycus, it's like her vs. Umbridge all over again. She's just such a badass. And then, "Harry heard a little strain of pride in her voice," it's like...awww. And at the same time, YEAAAAAAH!

4. Crucio! I know people are all pissy over this, but frankly? It didn't surprise me. Harry's tried to use Crucio before and he's always been hotheaded--he ( ... )

4. Why do people expect Harry to be so damn perfect? He's never been perfect - he's always had a temper. Of course he was going to try out Cruciatus. It doesn't mean he'll use it every day, or probably ever again. Sometimes learning the worst of onesself is just part of growing up - and growing up is exactly what Harry's doing.

6. SNAPE TOTALLY SKULKS BEHIND SUITS OF ARMOR AND STATUES. It's vaguely cute and creepy and weird all at the same time.

This was an odd chapter on the first reading in that, before DH came out, I had expected Snape to feature largely in the book, and up until that point we had really barely seen him. So when Harry finally is able to confront him, it's a bit anticlimactic not to mention so weird to get that comical "Snape-shaped hole" line. Of course all is rectified later, but it was an unexpected handling of the character to say the least.

Yeah, that was weird. I mean, he didn't sideways bellflop into the window, did he? The how the hell can the hole look Snape-shaped, as opposed to just looking like a regular broken window?!

Yeah, I don't know what Hogwarts windows are made of for that to happen. I wonder if JKR put in such a slapstick gag just to make it more jarring and less expected when things take such a serious turn for Snape.

That seems kinda unnecessary of her. Although she does sometimes write things that are ridiculously/irritatingly cartoon-y and don't fit the tone of the book. "Snape-shaped hole" is one of my least favorite parts of the entire series.

1) Luna stuns Alecto Carrow. Good thing, too. Harry is disoriented from his flash into Voldie-Vision and probably wouldn’t have reacted quickly enough. Luna is so pleased with herself, especially when the Ravenclaws who trooped downstairs at the noise react with delight.

2) Harry chooses to sink into Voldemort’s mind now. He has mastered the connection; he can decide when and when not to respond to the throbbing of his scar. Voldie-Vision is coming in handy now, so that Harry can keep track of where Voldemort is and how much time they have left.

3) Amycus is not far behind after Alecto summons Voldemort, but Harry and Luna are safely hidden under the cloak by then. Amycus is too dumb or too arrogant to answer the question posed by the knocker and can’t get in.

4) Professor McGonagall is awesome. She stands up to Amycus, especially when he threatens to make the Ravenclaw students the scapegoats for falsely summoning Voldemort. Despite her often gruff exterior, McGonagall speaks of Harry being in her House with pride. ( ... )

5) I thought it was gratuitous. He could just as easily have stunned the man, after all. I didn't like the way Hagrid reacted to Vernon's insult of Dumbledore, either. I mean, it was Vernon who gave the insult, and Hagrid went and hexed his terrified son.

7) I was *sure* it was evidence for my "McGonagall is Evil" theory. *sigh*

7. I think she just couldn't resist using an Unforgivable after suffering under the Carrows' reign of terror.

11) Here comes Snape! I was back to thinking he was good, on my first read through but wondering when/if he would show his true colors. Not yet, I think. Snape knows that Voldemort has been summoned by his Dark Mark. He also knows or guesses that Alecto has apprehended an intruder. Did he just guess or does the Dark Mark somehow let him know who has done the summoning? I guess maybe it lets him know where? - because Voldemort would need to know where he had been summoned to. Snape tried to use legilimency on McGonagall to find out if she has seen Harry, but McGonagall has already made up her mind what must be done.

12) McGonagall and Flitwick pwn Snape. The image in my mind of the pursuing daggers and the suit of armor coming to life is pretty funny. Though I do feel sorry for Snape this time around, knowing how it all ends. McGonagall calls him a coward, which if Snape heard while jumping out the window, will probably drive him insane. It’s just like a cartoon, with a “Snape-shaped” hole in the window.

13) Snape can ( ... )

Yes, well that's probably why it took them so long to come back ... and they had to retrieve the basilisk fangs to explain their absence :-D
