“I just don’t believe anymore.” Eunhyuk slumped down in his chair, head hung in defeat.
Sungmin look at Eunhyuk. He wasn’t used to seeing his friend so down in the dumps. He usually had a bright smile on his face and always willing to have some fun but lately, he’d been looking more tired and tired and wasn’t functioning normally.
“What’s the matter, Hyukkie?” Sungmin tentatively sat down next to him, hand coming out to rub his back soothingly.
“It’s just…I just don’t believe anymore.”
“What don’t you believe, Hyukkie?”
Eunhyuk looked down at his hands before rubbing them frustrated over his face and hair. “I just don’t believe…I have the skills.”
“The skills? What skills?” Sungmin looked at Eunhyuk confused.
“See? You don’t even know what I’m talking about. Now this just confirms my suspicions.” Eunhyuk gave a heavy sigh, burying his head into his hands again.
“No, no, I didn’t mean it like that, Hyukkie. Just…just talk to me.”
“I just don’t feel like I have it anymore. Does anyone actually appreciate my skills? I work hard and try to do my best and yet it doesn’t feel like it’s enough.”
“What do you mean, Hyukkie?”
“Like does anyone appreciate what I do? Do people care? Do they believe in me?” Eunhyuk stood up to begin pacing. His hair was sticking up in all directions from his hair pulling.
Sungmin watched as Eunhyuk worked himself even more. “Why don’t you try to relax, Hyukkie? Getting this worked up won’t help.”
“But it’s eating away at me. Like from the inside out. It just won’t leave my head. What if I’m not good enough?” Eunhyuk fell to his knees in despair.
“Eunhyuk, it really shouldn’t be this big of a deal.”
“Normally, it wouldn’t bother me but I just can’t help it.” Eunhyuk lay down on the floor.
Sungmin gave a heavy sigh. “Eunhyuk, this belief you have…it’s just in your head. You know you’re better than whatever you’re thinking. You have the skill. Just know that any doubts you have are inconsequential as long as you remember why you do it. That’s all that should matter. That is the only belief you should have.”
Sungmin gave him a small smile, hoping to convey his meaning and feelings to the frustrated boy. He didn’t know how to help when Eunhyuk would barely tell him anything.
Eunhyuk pursed his lips before taking a few deep breaths. “I guess you’re right, Minnie. Thanks for the help, even though I didn’t tell you anything.”
A small chuckle escaped his lips as he sat up with a smile.
“There’s my Hyukkie, smiling that gummy smile I love.” Sungmin held out his arms that Eunhyuk fell into for a tight hug.
“Hyukkie? Hyukkie? Are you here?” Donghae poked his head out from behind the door. “Hyukkie, are you okay? I’m sorry if I did anything to make you feel bad and I’ll make it up to you in any way as long as you feel better.”
Eunhyuk chuckled as he pulled away from Sungmin. “I’m better now, Hae but I’ll take that offer if you’re still willing to give it.”
“Sure.” Donghae smiled brightly. “Come on.”
Eunhyuk gave one last hug to Sungmin before racing off to join Donghae.
