Title: Scales - Donghae’s Secret
Pairing: Donghae/Kyuhyun

Theme: 057. Scales Donghae/Kyuhyun
Summary: Donghae has kept a little secret hidden from all the other members but one day Kyuhyun discovers what it is.
Kyuhyun stared at Donghae in shock and amazement. Were those scales he saw on Donghae? What happened to his legs? Why did he now have a giant tail? There was no way that boy could be a mermaid. Mermaids don’t exist. It’s not possible…
But that would totally explain his love of fishes.
“Kyuhyun? What’s the matter? Have you never seen a mermaid actually merman before?”
“Uh…no because they don’t exist. But why are you showing your tail now? I’ve never seen this before and you’ve been in water a lot while we’ve been together.”
“Yeah but that’s all fresh water. That does nothing for me. Salt water brings out my tail. Remember when we went to the ocean? I stayed out of the water and away from the waves.”
“If you were going to stay out of the water, why did you even go? Better yet, why are you even here? If you’re a merman, shouldn’t you be underwater?”
“Are you done with the questions?” Kyuhyun nodded. “Alright, take a seat and I’ll tell you everything.”
“Start from the beginning.”
“Alright, so I’m the Prince of all fish, which I guess you can guess. For one year, when we turn 18, we are allowed to come to the human world and live among them. This is done so we can learn more about humans and understand why we live separate from them. At the end, we can choose to stay in the human world or return to our world.”
“But you’re - “
“For those that choose to stay, they do so on the one condition that if they should come in contact with salt water, they would revert to their turn form and they can never talk about their world. They are allowed to return whenever they wish or choose to live out the rest of their lives here. But they are warned, when they come into contact with salt water, they won’t be able to get their legs back unless through a stroke of luck or some other procedure I don’t remember. I don’t know how many people living here were originally from our world. We erase their names from our records but their names return when they lose their legs.”
“So why are you - “
“I came here for my one year when some man scouted me for Super Junior. I had no choice but to stay with the group. I had grown to love them and the fans.”
“But what about - “
“My mom understood how I felt but my father was still a little iffy. I tried my best to stay away from the water because if I ever come into contact with it, my dad will pull me back down. Even now I only have some limited time before he takes me away. Now what have I forgotten?”
Kyuhyun was about to answer when he saw a small tidal wave coming towards them.
“Uh Donghae…”
“Oh right, now I remember.” Donghae looked directly at Kyuhyun and smiled. “I love you.”
Kyuhyun felt his brain stop functioning. “Dong - HAE!!!!”
The wave came crashing down over Donghae and when it pulled away, Donghae was gone as well. He looked at the wave and thought he saw a face smiling at him.
Kyuhyun’s eyes widened as he recognized Hankyung’s face smiling back at him. He felt a tug on his leg and looked down to see a little crab.
“AHHH!”
“Hey you shut up and listen. Prince Donghae would like you to know that in two weeks you two will be married. You’ll be brought down to his home and help produce baby guppies. Make sure all your affairs are in order since you’re not returning to the human world ever, except to visit your parents or friends when Prince Donghae and King Hankyung deem it okay. Here’s the proclamation detailing everything I said and more. There are instructions of what you need to do. I’ll see you here in two weeks. Good luck Cho Kyuhyun. You’ll need it if you’re marrying our prince.” The crab smiled and disappeared into the water, leaving Kyuhyun standing there shocked and still trying to process everything.
A/N: a very quickly written one shot, kinda crack since I wasn’t sure what I was saying as I wrote it and sorry about the ending but felt like should leave it there XD didn’t even expect to make it a romantic coupling since it’s against my bias (if you haven’t noticed I normally write Kyumin and Eunhae)
